Solar in Oak Forest
The City of Oak Forest is committed to encouraging residents, businesses and institutions to reduce energy consumption and install solar energy systems. Renewable energy, such as solar, make our community more energy efficient and saves the community and residents funds.
Solar Permits
A building permit is required for the installation of photovoltaic solar systems and the permit documentation such as, application, fees and requirements. Review the installation guide.
Oak Forest Solar Locations
Over the last few years, the City of Oak Forest has seen a substantial increase in the number of building permits obtained for the installation of solar panels, as indicated on the attached link to a Map of Solar Panel Locations.
Solar Zoning Allowance
Solar panels are permitted from a zoning perspective in the City of Oak Forest. This is as long as they meet the intent and definition of an accessory structure and to a principal use, such as a residence, business or institution.
