Construction Update: 159th Street is now open. Due to the continued improvements to southbound Cicero Avenue, the new double turning lanes will remain a single turning lane until that portion has been completed. All four through-lanes have been opened.
Update September 27, 2018
The Illinois Department of Transportation has notified the City of Oak Forest that all lanes on 159th Street will be completed and opened by the beginning of November. The City is awaiting the updated work schedule from IDOT pertaining to the road and culvert construction impacting Cicero Avenue.
Update July 18, 2018
Great news! The Illinois Department of Transportation just opened 159th Street at Cicero Avenue. 159th Street is reduced to one lane in each direction plus a turning lane during the next stage of the proposed improvements to the intersection. Stage 2 will begin Friday, July 20. This stage will reduce Cicero Avenue one lane in each direction from 157th Street to 161st Street. Be mindful of fellow drivers and travel times if it is necessary to use these roads to get to a destination.
Update July 2, 2018
The Illinois Department of Transportation has amended their estimated time to Friday, July 20. At that time, traffic will be allowed on 159th Street with a left turn-lane from 159th and one lane available in each direction.
Update June 7, 2018
The Illinois Department of Transportation has made significant progress towards completing the culvert replacement on 159th Street. IDOT plans on completing a portion of the the construction in order to open one lane in each direction with left turn lane from 159th Street before Independence Day.
Update May 21, 2018
Progress on the culvert replacement at 159th Street and Oak Avenue has been delayed due to a ComEd utility delay and weather patterns causing the work site to be flooded multiple times. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has informed the City of Oak Forest that the June 2nd deadline will not be met.
Once the new box culvert is complete, IDOT will modify this stage of improvements to open 159th Street to traffic before the roadwork on 159th Street is complete. West of Cicero Avenue there will be one lane in each direction with a left turn lane eastbound to northbound Cicero Avenue.

159th Street and Cicero Avenue Construction Update – Sign Reconfiguration
Effective Monday, April 16: The current traffic control sign configuration in the areas between 159th Street and Oak Avenue and 160th Street and Cicero Avenue will be reconfigured to address traffic flow problems that have arisen from the project. City departments have worked together to come up with a best solution for all affected commuters and residents.
Entry and exit from the Arbor Park Metra Lot located at 159th Street and Oak Avenue will be limited to the following times:
If you are unable to enter or exit the Arbor Park Metra lot at the above designated time frames, you will be required to park at the Oak Forest Waverly Metra Lot located at 157th Street and Waverly Avenue.
There will be no entry to Oak Avenue from 159th Street and to 160th Street from Cicero Avenue outside of the above designated hours. Southbound Oak Avenue at 160th Street and westbound 160th Street at Oak Avenue will be closed to traffic until the completion of the construction project. Please see map below.

Pace Bus: Route 364 Detour Notice:
Pace Bus Route 364 Detour: Construction on 159th Street and Cicero Avenue will cause Bus Route 364 to detour.
During the detour 159th Street between Laramie Avenue and Cicero Avenue will not be served. Buses will be rerouted via Laramie Avenue, 155th Street and Cicero Avenue. During the detour, Pace will serve temporary stops on Laramie north of 159th Street and 159th Street east of Cicero Avenue. No other stops will be served on the detour routing.
Pace will update passengers when the regular routing is scheduled to resume.
Update March 19, 2018
Reminder that on April 2nd 159th will be completely closed; only between Oak Avenue and Cicero Avenue. There will be no thru traffic at that point of the road. Cicero will be completely unaffected by this stage of improvements. However come June, Cicero will be decreased to 1 lane northbound and 1 lane southbound during stages 2 & 3.

Post from January 2018:
The Illinois Department of Transportation has notified the City of Oak Forest that 159th Street from Oak Avenue to Cicero in Oak Forest will be closed for at least 60 days starting April 2nd. IDOT will close the road to remove and replace a large culvert under road and intersection improvements. These improvements will include new double turning lanes on east bound 159th to north bound Cicero Avenue and a turn lane on east bound 159th to southbound Cicero. Once 159th Street is closed the traffic detour will be Cicero Avenue to 167th Street west to Harlem Avenue then north to 159th Street
The culvert will be replaced under both 159th Street and Cicero Avenue in the following stages.
Mid February - Start installing temporary traffic signals and utility relocation. This requires only day time closures.
April 2nd - Completed closure of 159th Street from Oak Avenue to Cicero. This closure is set for 60 days. Once 159th Street is completed, it will be reopened to all lanes of traffic.
June - Once 159th street is reopened Cicero Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction until the project completion which is estimated to be November 15th.
