Oak Forest Man Charged with Aggravated Battery to Police Officer

Oak Forest Man Charged with Aggravated Battery to Police Officer

On 3/15/2019 at approximately 8:36am, The Oak Forest Police Department responded to a car accident involving an Oak Forest Police vehicle at the 15400 block of Ridgeland Avenue. The Oak Forest Police vehicle was occupied by an Oak Forest Officer who was in uniform and working his assigned shift. The Oak Forest Police vehicle was parked running stationary radar and was struck head on by a vehicle. The vehicle was traveling above the normal rate of speed. The Oak Forest Police and Oak Forest Fire Department responded to the scene and both the Oak Forest Officer and the driver of the second vehicle were transported to local hospitals and treated for injuries and both later released. Oak Forest Detectives reviewed camera footage from the Oak Forest Police vehicle and determined the crash was an intentional act.  

Later that same day, charges were approved against the offender, Jerrold T. GIBBONS (56) of the 15100 Block of Willow Lane, who was charged with one count of Aggravated Battery to Police Officer and Aggravated Speeding +35 over the posted speed limit. The offender was taken to Cook County Central Bond Court on 03/16/2019 where he received a $25,000.00 personal recognizance bond. The criminal investigation remains ongoing.

Collision on Ridgeland Ave. with Officers

On March 15, 2019 at approximately 08:36 hours at the 15400 block of Ridgeland Avenue, an Oak Forest police officer was parked in a marked patrol unit monitoring traffic.  A vehicle traveling S/B Ridgeland Avenue stuck the marked unit head on.  The officer and the other driver were transported to area hospitals. Oak Forest Police are currently investigating the traffic crash.
