6th Ward Update

June 2011

We believe that great relationships create lasting value for everyone involved. And in our experience, those relationships almost always start from good conservations. — Deloitte Consulting

Summer is here – time to sit in the sun, relax, have great conversations, and enjoy your friends and family. As you probably know, water conservation measures are in effect, so – if it ever stops raining – remember that you can only water your landscape between 7 and 11 a.m. and 7 and 11 p.m. on an odd and even basis according to your address.

As you plan your summer events, remember to put Oak Fest on your calendar. It's the ideal spot to celebrate the Fourth of July. But, if you prefer to picnic at home, try out two of my favorite holiday treats.

Red, white and blue strawberries: melt white chocolate, dip strawberries into it and sprinkle with blue sprinkles – easy and delicious.

Or, rocket hot dogs: wrap a hot dog in breadstick dough and insert a skewer – letting it protrude at the top. Bake the dogs according to the dough package instructions. Add a triangle of cheese for a topper, tie on a tail made from aluminum foil and squirt stripes of ketchup and mustard.

Also this summer, take time to play a round of miniature golf at the new and improved El Morro Park. Or, if you are looking for a little indoor fun, check out Acorn Library's summer reading program. Not only will you enjoy a good read, but you'll be able to check out all the changes happening at the library.  However, no matter what you do this summer, please remember to drive carefully.

On a final note, the rainy spring season brought flooding problems to the residents of Sarah Lane. The city is working with Cook County and the Forest Preserve to work out a resolution. At present, the county is listening to us and we are encouraged that they will continue to listen moving forward.
