Fire Prevention

The Oak Forest Fire Department has a very progressive and active fire prevention program. The department's commitment to safety is illustrated through its status as one of the first communities in Illinois to adopt residential sprinkler requirements. Fire prevention is a shared responsibility between property owners and the Fire Department.

Annual fire inspections are performed in all multiple family residences as well as all business and commercial establishments.  Here are some tips regarding the safety of your family and guests:

Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are required in all single family and multiple family residential dwellings. If you are a renter, YOU are responsible for insuring that the battery is operating.

Use of Grills
Grills are not to be used on the porch or balcony of any multiple family or commercial building.

Insurance
Do you have homeowners insurance or renters insurance protecting you against fire? Can you afford to replace all of your belongings if they were lost? Insurance is a cheap alternative to funding total replacement of your property.
