Fire Department

The Oak Forest Fire Department provides 24-hour fire protection, paramedic service and emergency response to the residents and businesses of Oak Forest. The department was founded in 1945 and has provided excellent public services through its existence.
The department consists of 24 full-time sworn personnel and 21 part-time personnel.   Two fire stations serve the community. They are located at 155th Street and Central Avenue and 167th Street, west of Cicero Avenue. The city staffs two advanced life support ambulances, which are housed at each fire station. A third advanced life support ambulance is available as backup.
The city participates in Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (M.A.B.A.S.) Division 24, an organized system designed to systematically provide and receive additional emergency assistance when needed within the region. This intergovernmental agreement provides an extra layer of protection to our citizens and business community.
Fire Department personnel are active members of various south suburban emergency response groups including the South Suburban Emergency Response Team (S.S.E.R.T.), Arson Task Force, and Hazardous Materials Team. These specialized teams work across the area to provide tactical emergency medical services, fire investigations, and to mitigate hazardous materials incidents. A high level of training and commitment is necessary to operate effective specialized teams. Due to the inability of any one department to handle the potential magnitude of emergency incidents, it is important for neighboring departments to work together to provide these services to our citizens and business community.
