Bike and Foot Patrol

The Oak Forest Police Department's bike and foot patrol programs provide public safety while promoting a sense of community.  By getting police officers out of their vehicles and onto city sidewalks, the Police Department creates valuable opportunities for officers and residents to interact in a positive way.

Four officers participate in the bike patrol program, which was implemented in 1996.  The officers routinely patrol various city streets and are particularly visible during Oak Fest and Irish Fest.

The foot patrol program was implemented in 2007.  During the summer months, uniformed police officers walk the neighborhoods in their assigned areas at least one hour per shift. The program is an ideal way for officers to get to know residents and establish a more visible presence within the neighborhoods.
