The Oak Forest Police Department is one of 22 member agencies that forms the South Suburban Emergency Response Team (SSERT). SSERT is a special weapons and tactics team trained to undertake assignments typically involving very dangerous and volatile situations. We typically refer to such units as S.W.A.T. teams.

The Police Department is a charter member of SSERT. Other member communities include: Blue Island, Burnham, Calumet City, Calumet Park, Chicago Heights, Country Club Hills, Dixmoor, Dolton, Flossmoor, Glenwood, Hazel Crest, Homewood, Lynwood, Matteson, Midlothian, Park Forest, Posen, Richton Park, Riverdale, Sauk Village, South Holland, Thornton, and Tinley Park.
