July 21 - Water main replacement program will resume shortly
Work on the city's water main replacement program will resume now that the strike by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 and the Laborers' International Union of North America Local 2 has ended.  The strike, which began in early July, caused a work stoppage on all construction projects in the Chicagoland area.  Work is expected to begin again in three to five days.  Project completion dates will be extended by the number of days of the strike.  Please visit this page often for updates.

April 29 - Waverly Avenue from 155th Street to 156th Street is now open
Waverly Avenue from 155th Street to 156th Street has re-opened after crews installed a water main under the culvert north of 156th Street.

Victoria Drive rehabilitation program moves forward
The City of Oak Forest is reconstructing Victoria Drive -- thanks to a $742,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation's Emergency Repair Program.  Crews have begun working on Linden Avenue and are working their way east to James Drive.  The project is expected to be completed by the end of August.
The rehabilitation project includes pavement resurfacing; areas of partial full-depth pavement removal and replacement; roadway base repairs; curb replacement; removal of asphalt ramps and mountable curbs across driveway entrances; partial driveway apron replacement to meet the grade of new curb lines; and sidewalk replacement.
Please read this message from the Public Works Department for specific information pertaining to the rehab program and how it will effect homeowners.

Phase I: Water main replacement program underway
The water main replacement program began on April 19 and is expected to last until mid September.  As part of the project, water mains will be replaced and upsized on the following streets:
  1. Waverly Avenue - from Cicero Avenue to just west of Kilbourn Avenue
  2. Kilbourn Avenue - from Waverly Avenue to 152nd Street
  3. Kenton Avenue - from midblock 152nd Street to midblock 153rd Street
  4. 155th Street - from Cicero Avenue to Waverly Avenue
  5. 152nd Street - from Cicero Avenue to Kilbourn Avenue
  6. 151st Street - from Cicero Avenue to Kilpatrick Avenue
  7. Kilpatrick Avenue - from 155th Street to 153rd Street and 152nd Street to 151st Street

Residents will be notified before a water shut down occurs (except in the case of emergencies).  If you have a sprinkler system in the right of way, please contact the Public Works Department at 708-535-4090.

Public Works asks for your patience as we upgrade your water system.  When completed, there will be additional looping mains to the east side of Cicero Avenue, which will provide increased reliability throughout the system.

Phase II: Water main replacement program
As part of phase II, crews will install a 16" water main from 151st Street to 155th Street.  They also will replace 4" and 6" water mains with 8" mains around the Oak Forest High School football field and across the north side of the school.  Work will begin once school lets out for summer.  Please check back often for updates.

Phase III: Water main replacement program
During this phase of the program, crews will install a 16" water main along George Brennan Highway from Arrowhead Trace to Cypress Court.  They also will improve fire protection and water quality by installing an 8" main through the south side of Morton Gingerwood Elementary.  Work is scheduled to begin in 2011.  Please check back often for updates.

Laramie Avenue rehabilitation program begins April 26
Concrete work will begin on Laramie Avenue on Monday, April 26.  The project includes 155th Street south to 159th Street (.485 lane miles) and is scheduled to be completed by July.  The project includes pavement resurfacing; areas of partial full-depth pavement removal and replacement; roadway base repairs; curb replacement; partial driveway apron replacement where necessary to meet the grade of new curb lines; and select sidewalk replacement.  Please read this message from the Public Works Department for more specific information as to who this project will affect homeowners.  The Laramie Avenue rehabilitation program is being funded by a TIGER stimulus grant under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  The city secured the grant to improve local roads at a cost of up to $300,000.
