Oak Forest Police Chief Jason Reid announces retirement

City News Posted on January 28, 2025

Oak Forest Police Chief Jason Reid has announced that he will be retiring from the Oak Forest Police Department after more than 27 years of service. Chief Reid’s last day will be February 24, 2025.

“I wish Jason all the best on a well-deserved retirement and express my sincere appreciation to him for his years of leadership and dedication to our community,” said Mayor Hank Kuspa.  “Jason has been an exemplary public servant and his thoughtful and compassionate approach to community policing has greatly benefited Oak Forest.”

Reid began his career with the Oak Forest Police Department as a patrol officer and worked his way up to deputy police chief in 2016 and police chief in 2020.  As police chief, Reid utilized cutting-edge technology to deter and solve crimes, implemented operational and technological advances in the city’s 911 Communications Center, and advocated for training and continuing education for officers.  In addition, Reid was a founding member of a task force comprised of neighboring police departments to collect, develop and share best practices in law enforcement.

“My time serving as chief of this department has been extremely rewarding,” Reid said.  “Police work can be challenging and stressful, but I have been fortunate to have the support of a wonderful, caring family, the town that I grew up in, and the brave men and women of the Oak Forest Police Department. I am thankful to them and I am proud of our achievements.”

The City Council will honor Reid at its meeting on February 25 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
