Melanie E. Bloden receives the Oak Forest Police Department Life Saving Award Congratulations to Oak Forest resident Melanie Bloden, who received the Police Department Life Saving Award at the February 11, 2020 City Council meeting. Ms. Bloden’s personal courage and quick actions helped prevent a large house fire and saved a life. The City of Oak Forest thanks Melanie for her service to our community.

11th Annual Oak Forest Fleadh 5K and Family ParadeSaturday, March 7, 2020The Oak Forest-Crestwood Area Chamber of Commerce with the City of Oak Forest is excited for the 11th Annual Oak Forest Fleadh 5K and Family Parade on Saturday, March 7, 2020! The Fleadh includes a 5K run/walk, an open streets event (ride, blade, skate), a family parade up Cicero Avenue (157th to 151st Streets), and a pub and restaurant open house.
This year's Fleadh Family Parade grand marshal is the Acorn Public Library; celebrating 50 years in our community!

District 228 Fine Arts Festival March 7th - 9 am to 2:30 pm Visitors to this year’s Fine Arts Festival will be able to see a variety of artwork and musical performances by students attending District 228 high schools, as well as by students from local elementary schools within the district. The event will also feature a Small College Resource Fair intended for students who are interested in continuing their education in the fine arts.

Cook County Board of Review Offers Surviving Spouse Tax Abatement The Cook County Board of Commissioners and the Chicago City Council have passed ordinances to authorize a property tax abatement in their jurisdictions for the surviving spouses of Cook County's fallen heroes.
The Board of Review will consider applications and supporting evidence - hold a hearing if needed - and recommend qualifying applicants for final approval. This program is an opportunity to assist the families of our fallen heroes with the financial costs that have resulted from their loses.

Jewel-Osco Pin-pad Campaign for Honor Flight Chicago Jewel-Osco will be back as a sponsor for Honor Flight Chicago (HFC) in 2020 with their pin-pad campaign at checkout! HFC was founded in 2008 to recognize America’s senior war veterans by flying them to Washington, D.C. to tour the memorials built in their honor. The campaign starts Saturday, February 1, and continues all month long until February 29.
Shoppers will have an opportunity to add a donation for HFC to their total via the pin-pad at checkout -- even when paying by cash! Ask your cashier for details. School District 1462020 Kindergarten Pre-registration Is Open
Community Consolidated School District 146 2020-21 Kindergarten Pre-registration is now open. Children who turn 5 years of age on or by September 1, 2020 are eligible for Kindergarten pre-registration.
Complete the online Kindergarten pre-registration, present proof or residency, birth certificate before Thursday, April 23, 2020. Bring all documents to the District Administration Center at 6611 W. 171st Street, Tinley Park.
Pre-registration must be complete in order for your child to participate in the Kindergarten screening which will be held on April 25, 2020.

United States Census 2020
By April 1, 2020, every home will receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. Once the invitation arrives, you should respond for your home in one of three ways: online, by phone, or by mail. This will mark the first time that you will be able to respond to the census online.
The Census has been a cornerstone of our democracy since the first national count in 1790. It is mandated by the Constitution and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, a nonpartisan government agency.
The 2020 Census counts the population in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories (Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Join the Oak Forest Senior Commission! The Oak Forest Senior Commission is looking for senior citizens who might like to serve as members of this commission, which meets in City Hall on every second Wednesday of the month at 1:00 PM.
The Senior Commission gets involved in various community events, such as the annual Health Fair at the Oak Forest Park District and monthly senior lunches at the Oak Forest Community Center.
