9/11 Memorial at Oak Forest City Hall

City of Oak Forest 9-11 Memorial Plaque

On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost at the World Trade Center in New York City, at the Pentagon Office Building in Washington, DC and on Flight 93 in Somerset County, Pennsylvania as a consequence of acts of terrorism.

The steel beam (WTC Artifact C-95) is a piece of the World Trade Center. It was donated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to the City of Oak Forest. The beam sits within a pentagon-shaped planter. It is surrounded by five lighted bollards, one honoring the lives that were lost and the others honoring the dedicated First Responders – Firefighters, Police Officers, Public Works and Emergency Management personnel – who put their lives on the line on September 11th and continue to do so each day across America to help keep our country safe.

The 9-11 Memorial was dedicated on September 11, 2014.

City Council Meeting Chambers

Oak Forest City Council Meeting

The next City Council Meeting will be held on September 14, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.

CITIZENS PARTICIPATION

The Oak Forest City Council invites public comment at its meetings, but it generally does not have the ability to provide an immediate response to some questions raised during the Citizens Participation portion of a council meeting without some reasonable opportunity to review them.  Therefore, the City Council encourages questions to also be submitted in writing in the event that they need to be referred to City staff to help assure a more thoughtful and informed response.  The Council Chambers is open for the public to attend.  Social distancing must be maintained by attendees.
