Veterans Commission to dedicate flag depository tomorrow


The Oak Forest Veterans Commission will hold a dedication ceremony for the new flag depository at the corner of Central Avenue and James Drive on Saturday, November 19 at 11 a.m.

This Thanksgiving holiday, the Oak Forest Police Department is joining a national effort with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and other local law enforcement agencies to save more lives by strongly enforcing seat belt and impaired driving laws.

The Public Works Department offers several seasonal reminders for residents regarding proper disposal of leaves, branch pickup, and parking after a snowfall of two inches or more.

Christmas parade

Celebrate the Christmas season with us on December 3


The City of Oak Forest invites residents, local business owners and visitors to its annual Christmas parade and tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, December 3. The parade steps off from Oak Forest High School at 11 a.m. and makes its way down Central Avenue to City Hall for the tree lighting ceremony at the gazebo.

City Hall will be closed tomorrow


City Hall will be closed tomorrow.  During non-business hours, please use the night deposit mail slot at City Hall, pay parking or ordinance tickets online or sign up for online water bill payments.

Please note: In light of the Thanksgiving holiday, City Hall also will be closed November 24 through November 26.  It will reopen on Monday, November 28 at 9 a.m.  

City Council meets next week


The City Council will meet on Tuesday, November 22 at 6:30 p.m. (Committee of the Whole) and at 8 p.m. for its regular meeting in Council Chambers at City Hall.  Citizens are invited to attend the meetings and are welcome to participate at the designated time.

OFHS Madrigals perform at next senior luncheon


The Oak Forest High School Madrigals will perform at the next senior luncheon on Thursday, December 8 at 11 a.m. (doors open at 10 a.m.) at the Community Center. Tickets are $4 each at City Hall.

If you are a cable television subscriber, you can view the Community Information Channel (CIC-TV) on Comcast channel 19, Wide Open West channel 6 and AT&T U-verse channel 99 to learn more about city programs and events.  If you do not subscribe to cable television, you can watch Committee of the Whole and City Council meetings online or check out the DVDs at Acorn Public Library.
