Road Closed

IDOT Improvements and Pending Road Closure on 159th Street

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced last week the plan for improvements on 159th Street between Cicero Avenue and Oak Street (one block west of Cicero). In the coming weeks, IDOT will install temporary traffic signals and relocate utilities in preparation for the temporary complete closure of 159th Street. This closure is slated to begin April 2nd and run for 60 days while IDOT removes and replaces a large culvert under the road along with intersection improvements. These improvements will include new double turning lanes on eastbound 159th Street to northbound Cicero Avenue, a new turning lane on southbound Cicero to westbound 159th, and a turning lane on eastbound 159th to southbound Cicero. The detour route set by IDOT will be Cicero Avenue south to 167th Street west to Harlem Avenue then north to 159th Street. The closure ends in June with the entire improvement completing in November.

At this year's event, we proudly recognize the Oak Forest Veterans Commission (2018 family parade grand marshal) and all veterans who have served or are serving in the armed forces. With your help, we would like to donate personal care items to veterans at the Manteno Veterans Home, which provides care for up to 294 skilled care and special needs veterans. Requested items must be new and include: electric razors, roll-on deodorant, body wash/spray, denture cream/tablets, combs/hairbrushes, mouthwash, aftershave, railroad or diabetic socks, men's t-shirts (M, XXL, XXXL), sweatpants (M-XXXL), sunglasses, batteries, postage stamps, small flash lights, individually packed snacks (no nuts), coffee, and lemonade mix. We appreciate your support and generosity to benefit our nation's veterans.
