Volunteers Help Residents With UpkeepWhen a neighbor's lawn is overgrown, it is sometimes difficult to tolerate. Through routine surveys and resident notifications, the Building Department may submit a citation. Most neighbors would think the unkempt lawn is due to neglect, but some residents have a bigger reason; whether it's mobility, monetary, or a recent life-changing event.
Connie Swindergal, Director of Youth Ministry at St. Damian Church and Andrew Bierlein of New Life Community Church, separately approached Alderman Paul Selman (4th Ward) about how each were having difficulty identifying a service project to help the community.
Selman, with the help of the Ordinance Enforcement Officer Lorna Stubbs, passed along the short list of residents who were in need of assistance maintaining their property due to a hardship. Swindergal and Bierlein combined efforts and gathered a list of at least 32 volunteers ready to help. This Saturday, July 27, beginning at 9 AM, volunteers will be mowing lawns and other yard work most of the day, or until all issues are resolved.
Volunteering your time helping others is what makes our community great.
Thank you to all involved!
