2019 Forest In Bloom Award Winners
The Oak Forest Streetscape Commission is proud to announce the winners of the 2019 Forest In Bloom Awards. The Streetscape Commission received almost 300 nominations this year. The Forest In Bloom Awards are presented annually to Oak Forest residents, businesses, and organizations who take the extra steps necessary to beautify their homes and properties through exceptional landscaping. When awarding points, judges consider the visual impact of the front yard landscaping and plant variety; the maintenance of lawn, bushes, shrubs, and flower beds; and the use of accessories (gazing balls, fountains, statues, etc.). Back yards are not considered for award selection.
Congratulations to the 2019 Forest in Bloom Award winners. The Streetscape Commission appreciates the efforts put towards making each property exceptional and we look forward to seeing what next year brings! Click here to view this year's list of winners.
Think your house was overlooked or didn't submit a nomination? Check back next June when the 2020 Forest In Bloom Awards opens on the city website at oak-forest.org/bloom.

Huge Turn-out For National Night Out 2019
On Tuesday, August 6, the City of Oak Forest hosted the 23rd Annual National Night Out with record attendance. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. (natw.org)
Residents enjoyed horseback rides provided by Nova Quarter Horses, inflatable bouncy houses, mini-train rides, and rock-climbing tower; and had the opportunity to meet with local businesses and organizations. The Oak Forest Police Department offered tours of the police station to residents granting access to dispatch and processing areas as well as teaching about procedures.
The City of Oak Forest would like to thank the Crime Prevention Commission, sponsors, and volunteers for making this an event to remember. Special thank you to Crime Prevention Commission co-chairs Lora Korgis and Mark Judge for leading this extraordinary event!

Backpacks for KidsOver the past few months, Oak Forest Firefighter Kurt DeGroot with Project Fire Buddies collected hundreds of school supplies donated from residents, businesses and other organizations to provide backpacks to schools with students who needed assistance for the coming school year.
"I am happy to say we filled and delivered 373 backpacks," said DeGroot. "We deliver to all 10 of our public schools in town. We also delivered a case of Kleenex to each school."
Most of the firefighters at the department helped fill and deliver backpacks full of school supplies. DeGroot's wife and youngest son also helped fill backpacks while firefighters were on-call. Michelle Barnes from CNB Bank & Trust collected several supplies at their bank location, and donated some, as well. Residents filled barrels with school supplies in barrels at the fire house and lobby of City Hall.
The City of Oak Forest thanks Kurt DeGroot, members of Project Fire Buddies, and all donors and volunteers in their efforts to help the children in our community have a better school experience.
