Oak Forest Fire Department receives $44,900 grant for critical lifesaving equipment

City News Posted on July 29, 2025

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® recently awarded the Oak Forest Fire Department a $44,900 grant to purchase battery-operated extrication equipment – greatly enhancing the safety and effectiveness of the department’s emergency operations.

The specialized equipment is vital for the rapid and safe rescue of individuals who are trapped in vehicles or confined spaces as a result of serious accidents or emergency incidents. The new tools have several advantages over traditional hydraulic tools, including increased maneuverability, reduced tripping hazards, and faster deployment.

“We are grateful to the foundation and our local Firehouse Subs in Oak Lawn for providing us with this invaluable funding,” said Deputy Fire Chief Paul Chocola. “The added benefit of having the very best equipment on hand means everything in an emergency when every second counts.”

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® has awarded 6,914 grants valued at over $98 million to public safety organizations since 2005. This grant is one of 65 the foundation awarded during the most recent grant cycle. The 65 grants will provide critical lifesaving equipment valued at more than $1.7 million across the U.S.
