Vehicle stickers on sale now


All vehicles that are housed in Oak Forest must be registered with the city and must display a current vehicle sticker at all times.  The stickers are valid from July 1 - June 30 of each year. Senior citizens, 65 and older, are eligible to receive two free vehicle stickers per household with proper id and vehicle registration. Buy your sticker online, through the mail or at City Hall.

Due to vehicle sticker sales, City Hall will be open every Saturday in June  from 9 a.m. to noon. 

Torch Run

Police officers carry the torch for Special Olympics on June 6


Oak Forest police officers will be carrying the torch for Special Olympics Illinois on Tuesday, June 6 at approximately noon as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, the largest year-round fundraising event benefiting Special Olympics athletes. The run will start at 147th and Cicero Avenue, proceed south on Cicero to 155th Street, and head west to City Hall.The Law Enforcement Torch Run has raised more than $28 million since 1986 while increasing awareness of Special Olympics Illinois athletes and their accomplishments.

The Oak Forest Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy, a 12-week program designed to provide residents a working knowledge of law enforcement and police department operations.  The program is free of charge and is limited to 25 students.

With summer just around the corner, now is the perfect time for area residents to begin planning an adventure in the Forest Preserves of Cook County. The Forest Preserves’ nearly 70,000 acres of wild and wonderful offer numerous opportunities to escape life’s hustle and bustle for an hour, a day or even a night. Residents can feel free to boldly explore 300 miles of trails, learn about archery, visit a Nature Center, or pitch a tent at one of five campgrounds. The Forest Preserves of Cook County have all of the programs, tools and equipment for a summer full of adventure.

Relay for Life is June 17


Relay for Life Oak Forest begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 17 at the Oak Forest Park District.  The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world's largest fundraising event to end cancer. It unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action to finish the fight once and for all. With the support of thousands of volunteers like you, the American Cancer Society is helping save more than 500 lives a day. Please join us and take action against a disease that has taken too much!

Learn the story of George Pullman at June senior lunch


In his one-man show, CJ Martello will tell the story of George Pullman at the June 22 senior lunch at 11 a.m. at the Community Center. Luncheon tickets are available at City Hall for only $4 each. 

Seniors: Walk with Ease at Bremen Township


Bremen Township will offer the Arthritis Foundation's Walk with Ease program on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. starting June 13 at the township Senior Center at 15350 S. Oak Park Ave, Oak Forest.  Sessions include informational discussions, warm up and cool downs and a 10-to 35-minute walking period.  This program meets twice a week for nine weeks and is in partnership with White Crane Wellness.  There is no charge for Bremen Township residents and a $20 fee for non-residents.  For more information and to register, call 708-687-8220.
