Leftover items from your sale? For your convenience, Goodwill Industries will have trucks available in two locations accepting donations of your unsold sale items, or for anything else you would like to donate.

Trucks will be stationed at 2 locations from 12:00 - 3:30 pm on Saturday, June 2nd:

ComEd Energy Efficiency Program

Oak Forest is the first suburb to benefit from the ComEd® Energy Efficiency Program partnered with the Chicagoland Vintage Home Association (CVHA). CVHA, formerly the Chicago Bungalow Association, has helped 3700 homes in Chicago for the past 17 years with a staggering satisfaction rating of 9.98 out of 10! Check your eligibility below and apply. No detailed financial information needed!

Eligibility
To qualify for this program you must meet the following criteria:

  • Vintage single-family home built at least 50 years ago
  • Home must be owner-occupied and receive electric delivery service from ComEd
  • Located in Cook County
  • Household income of 80% Area Median Income (AMI) or lower—see chart here.
Complete and submit the application either online or with the paper form. Paper forms are available at the City Hall front desk or you can download one here. Remember that no detailed financial information is needed except an approximate household income.

The ComEd® Energy Efficiency Program services include attic and sidewall insulation, air sealing, health and safety measures, and installation of energy-saving products.

Community Art Project 2018

Calling All Photographers!


The City of Oak Forest is looking for amazing photographs of flowers that you and your family can't stop talking about. You may have the chance for it to be featured in the 2018 Community Art Project: Flowers In the Forest. 

The city has chosen 15 utility control boxes throughout the city to wrap with high-resolution, color prints. One photograph will be chosen for each box location. Please submit your entry by Friday, June 1. The final photographs will be announced June 8.

New Faces. New Titles.


On Tuesday, May 22, Police Officer Michael V. Corona was sworn in by the City Council. Hiring Corona helps replace the recent group of retired officers from the Oak Forest Police Department bringing the department rank to full staffing. We welcome Officer Corona to the team!

The City is also happy to announce the promotion of Steven Griffin to Fire Lieutenant. Griffin entered the fire service in 2001 with the Tinley Park Fire Department. In 2006 he started with the Oak Forest Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic. In addition to his numerous Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal Certifications, Griffin has an Associates Degree in Fire Service Management from Moraine Valley Community College. Griffin will be a great addition at the Company Officer level.

Cicero Avenue Is Growing


The City of Oak Forest received an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) Grant from the State of Illinois for tree planting along Cicero Avenue. The agreement  consists of matching a percentage of the planting costs and maintenance with the Illinois Department of Transportation. The grant allows the planting of approximately 90 trees of various species in the center median as well as the east and west right-of-ways along Cicero Avenue from 163rd Street to 167th Street.

Nominate an Oak Forest resident, business or organization who takes the extra steps to beautify their property through exceptional landscaping!  The City of Oak Forest Streetscape Commission awards homes and businesses where pride of ownership really shines through with the Forest In Bloom Award.

All residents and business owners are eligible to nominate themselves or another home, business or organization using the award application on the city website. All nominations are due July 1!

Friends of Oak Forest Animal Control

Fun Night Out That Helps


The Friends of Oak Forest Animal Control invite you to join them Saturday, July 14th, 6:05pm game time to watch The Windy City Thunderbolts take on the Joliet Slammers at the Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood!


Your $10 ticket includes the Jimmy Buffet Night, a pre-game concert, cheeseburger and margarita specials in a family friendly surrounding. Your night with us will be capped off with an excellent fireworks show too!

With each ticket sale $4.00 goes directly to veterinary expenses of the cats and dogs in our care, initial exams as well as emergency medical procedures to get them on their way to a new forever home.

Join TEDxYouth@OakParkAve Sunday, June 3 for a series of talks by local speakers at Gaelic Park.TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks in 18 minutes or less.


TedxYouth@OakParkAve, organized by Oak Forest High School student, Annais Gangolf, will feature a series of informal talks and videos by inspirational individuals from the Oak Forest area who will share their ideas on how we can construct a better world. The series theme is "You hold the power" where speakers will share ideas about power, personal and other, and our access to it. As the access to knowledge becomes faster and easier, many are feeling more powerless, especially our youth.

Senior Luncheon

The Oak Forest Senior Commission is looking for senior citizens who might like to serve as members of this commission, which meets in City Hall on every second Wednesday of the month at 1:00 PM. 

The Senior Commission gets involved in various community events, such as the annual Health Fair at the Oak Forest Park District and monthly senior lunches at the Oak Forest Community Center.

Outstanding Lunches Served to Seniors Monday-Friday!


Bremen Township continues to serve hot lunches Monday-Friday at noon, at our Senior Café located at 15350 S. Oak Park Avenue, Oak Forest. Seniors age 60+ are eligible for this meal funded in partnership with AgeOptions.

A donation of $4.00 is requested but is not required. Reservations are also requested but are not always required, depending on availability. Menus are available at Oak Forest City Hall, the Bremen Township buildings on Oak Park Avenue and online at www.brementownship.net (click on  "Services" on the home page and then "Senior Services"). 

If you'd like to drop in and check it out, the Café opens at 10am. Coffee is available at no charge; Lunch begins at 12 Noon. For more information or to make a reservation, call 708-687-8220.
