ComEd Energy Efficiency Program

Upgrade Your 50 year-old Home!


Oak Forest is the first suburb to benefit from the ComEd® Energy Efficiency Program partnered with the Chicagoland Vintage Home Association (CVHA).

CVHA, formerly the Chicago Bungalow Association, has helped 3700 homes in Chicago for the past 17 years with a staggering satisfaction rating of 9.98 out of 10! Check your eligibility below and apply. No detailed financial information needed!

Eligibility
To qualify for this program you must meet the following criteria:

  • Vintage single-family home built at least 50 years ago
  • Home must be owner-occupied and receive electric delivery service from ComEd
  • Located in Cook County
  • Household income of 80% Area Median Income (AMI) or lower—see chart here.
Complete and submit the application either online or with the paper form. Paper forms are available at the City Hall front desk or you can download one here. Remember that no detailed financial information is needed except an approximate household income.

The ComEd® Energy Efficiency Program services include attic and sidewall insulation, air sealing, health and safety measures, and installation of energy-saving products.

Prescription Drug Take Back Program


The Oak Forest Police Department has a new prescription drug collection container located in the Police Department lobby for easy disposal of unwanted prescription drugs.

The goal of the Prescription Drug Take Back Program is to allow Oak Forest residents a convenient and safe disposal alternative by delivering all unused, unwanted, or expired medications to local law enforcement officials who dispose of these substances in a safe, secure, and non-hazardous manner.

The Oak Forest Police Department has established procedures for the collection and safe disposal of unused prescription and over-the-counter medicines dropped into the Prescription Drug Drop container. The Oak Forest Police Evidence Unit will be responsible for the intake, storage, and disposal of unused medications.

The Oak Forest Police Department will be conducting an initial prescription drug drop-off to familiarize residents with the location of the new Prescription Drug Drop container in the Police Department lobby on Saturday, July 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All residents are invited to bring unwanted acceptable prescription and non-prescription items from the list below for disposal on that day.
 
After the initial drop-off day, the Prescription Drug Drop container will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily for residents to turn-in approved medications. 

Acceptable Items include:
  • Prescription Drugs
  • Prescription Patches
  • Prescription Ointments
  • Prescription samples
  • Pet Medication
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Vitamins
Unacceptable Items include:
  • Needles
  • Aerosol cans or inhalers
  • Bio-hazard or infectious waste
  • Hydrogen Peroxide or alcohol
  • Thermometers
  • Food items
  • Supplements
  • Liquids
Wall That Heals

Volunteers Needed for Wall That Heals Viewing Event


The Oak Forest Veterans Commission will be hosting The Wall That Heals, a Vietnam War Memorial, from October 2 - 7; Open to the public October 4-7.

T
he Veterans Commission is looking for 20 volunteers to assist with setup and breakdown of the wall. The heaviest section of the wall weighs 80 lbs. The volunteers should be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.Participation times will be announced closer to the event dates.

Join the Senior Commission!


The Oak Forest Senior Commission is looking for senior citizens who might like to serve as members of this commission, which meets in City Hall on every second Wednesday of the month at 1:00 PM. 

The Senior Commission gets involved in various community events, such as the annual Health Fair at the Oak Forest Park District and monthly senior lunches at the Oak Forest Community Center.

Outstanding Lunches Served to Seniors Monday-Friday!


Bremen Township continues to serve hot lunches Monday-Friday at noon, at our Senior Café located at 15350 S. Oak Park Avenue, Oak Forest. Seniors age 60+ are eligible for this meal funded in partnership with AgeOptions.

A donation of $4.00 is requested but is not required. Reservations are also requested but are not always required, depending on availability. Menus are available at Oak Forest City Hall, the Bremen Township buildings on Oak Park Avenue and online at www.brementownship.net (click on  "Services" on the home page and then "Senior Services"). 

If you'd like to drop in and check it out, the Café opens at 10am. Coffee is available at no charge; Lunch begins at 12 Noon. For more information or to make a reservation, call 708-687-8220.
