Animal Control

Oak Forest Animal Control

Ordinances You Should Know

95.26  ANIMALS AT LARGE; IMPOUNDING.

(A)   No competent person shall cause, allow, permit or suffer a domestic animal to be at large in the city. Any domestic animal shall be deemed to be at large when it is off the property of its owner or keeper or not restrained by a responsible person by a leash or chain when not on the property of its owner or keeper.

95.47  PEACE DISTURBANCE.

No person shall keep any dog, whelp, bitch or other animal shut in or tied up in any yard, house or other place, which animal, by barking, howling or other noise, disturbs the peace and quiet of any family, individual or neighborhood.

These 2 ordinances are a common occurrence when owning a dog. Dogs bark, it’s what they do, but when a dog is barking incessantly, that becomes an issue. Being a courteous neighbor is important. We want to enjoy our families, our pets and our home.

If your dog won’t stop barking, take him or her in the house until they are calm. Do not leave your barking dog outside while unsupervised. Let them get to know your neighbors if your neighbors are willing. Sometimes a dog just wants company outside.

When a dog is off leash or not tethered off an owner’s property, it becomes a safety issue. We don’t want our dogs getting hit by a car, have the dog at risk of being stolen or lost, or the dog biting another person or pet because something may have triggered it. For the safety of your dog and others, it must be leashed.

Enjoy your pets by keeping them safe, getting them vaccinated, treating them like family and having fun!
